Perfect end to a tour - in Chicago - with Night Cap
On Thursday, April 2, 2026, Night Cap's "It's Happening" 2026 Tour came to end in Chicago's very own Chop Shop - in Wicker Park - after almost two months. I've been to the venue once before, but it's easy to forget how unassuming it can be. What looks like would just be a cool little bar ends up opening up to this neat little back room - that even has a second floor.

I, briefly, want to go over the opening act, Flight by Nothing. First and foremost, I cannot wait to see them again. Next time, I hope I have the opportunity to cover them. But, I see why they were brought along for the remaining tour - after only supposed to have been touring for the first few shows. Everything from their demeanor on stage, their gratitude after the show, and their sound - these guys have already been added to my playlist and will be on rotation for foreseeable future. (They also play a mean cover of "Baby Come Back.")
Night Cap holds a special place in my heart. They were one of the first bands I discovered when I first moved to/right before I moved to Chicago. One of my first posts was about the "Bean" with the song "Freeway" as my audio for my post. While they have a wide arrangement of music and sounds, Night Cap, to me, feels like the kind of music you can explore and get lost to - or just sit in your room and relive all of the great memories of things that have happened in your life.. Now, the songs may actually leave you in tears, but I just happen to have good memories and happy emotions when I listen to them. Regardless, whether emotionally or physically, their music will make you want to throw yourself into an adventure of discovery.

As for the actual show? Yea, it was phenomenal!! But, I guess that shouldn't be a surprise seeing as how these guys are all super down to earth and incredible at their craft. They played hit after hit, with this tour surrounding their most recent album, "It's Happening" - which has notes of Indie Pop/Indie Rock. Songs like "Will You Call" and "Doctor Love" have more of a pop-leaning sound, while songs like "Hide and Seek" and "Say Your Name" have a more rock-leaning edge - that almost makes it feel a little darker, heavier, and almost more intentional (with wordplay that cuts deeper).
I want to say thank you to the band for having me, and to Alex, for reaching out day of to extend the opportunity. The night was so much fun and I couldn't imagine myself being anywhere else that night. It was worth the late night, tired morning, and getting caught in the pouring rain. If you haven't already, go check out Night Cap - and Flight by Nothing - and enjoy some great tunes. Although their tour has concluded, keep an eye out for their next one, as I promise you that it is not something that you want to miss!
