Odisseo sets foot in Chicago as their second stop in their debut U.S. tour
Odisseo, a Mexican alt-rock band, set out on their debut U.S. tour at the beginning of December. Though they are only making a handful of stops here in the U.S., I am sure we will be seeing more of them soon. Odisseo, a name that that is derived from the words 'hate' (adio) and 'desire' (deseo), is how the band would describe the type of music that they put out. Having the opportunity to see them live, it is clear to see the immense amount of passion and emotion that goes into these songs - especially with a delivery as clean as theirs.

Odisseo captures the raw sound that is love and hate - intimacy and betrayal. They also so happen to remind me a lot of the sounds that I grew up with - with my mom waking up the house on a Saturday morning to sounds of rock en Espanol. Growing up, I didn't appreciate this music enough. If anything, I liked it because of the rhythm, but I didn't understand the lyrics behind them - not yet defeated by the modern day love and heartbreak. While I will always carry those greats with me, hopefully to a family of my own, Odisseo will definitely be my version of my Mom's music. Their music is a like a slow burn love that you don't understand is going to break you until you're knees deep in a head-first dive.
Love (desire) and hate are something that we all experience at one point in our life. They both make us think/do ridiculous things in this life, but none of them are wrong choices. Sometimes, all we can do is make the decision that makes sense to us at that very moment, but Odisseo definitely has a way of capturing how one can lead, and feed, into the other when one is betrayed by that same love that they once held so near and dear.
Odisseo's last show is going to be 12/11, and if you can't catch them this tour, I strongly urge everyone to go see them when the opportunity arises again. Whether you're a long time listener, or are just hearing about them, be ready to grab a drink and rethink your entire life. Listening to their studio work is amazing, but listening to them live will have you watching the performance while simultaneously being lost in your own mind - breaking down every decision, trying to understand every 'mistake' you've ever made.
