Life is always "Eternal Joy" (tour) with Motherfolk

Chicago was stop #19 of 21 of Motherfolk's "Eternal Joy" Tour. As the opening band, they brought along The Silkies, a band that I was all too unfamiliar with (unfortunately).

The Silkies, an indie rock band, has calming and melodies - but the forefront of their sound is nothing short of electrifying, only made more attention-grabbing by their on-stage, amped-up movements. The feeling of seeing them live is something you just cannot get by listening to their recorded work. While both versions are great, The Silkies definitely have that garage-band feeling - a feeling of familiarity that just makes you want to keep coming back for more.

Moving onto the main course, Motherfolk. First and foremost, the Motherfolk fam is like that funny friend that doesn't try to be funny - they just are. They're the ones you always want to be around and can partake in any of the various friend groups. But, why are we here? Well, Motherfolk released an album.. can you guess what it is? I'll spoil it; the name of the album is "Eternal Joy." This album has a lot of many different sounds. If you're an indie rock fan, you'll definitely find something for you - especially if you're into that distorted guitar sound and smooth vocals.

I've always said that I have a special love for concerts, because no matter who you see, you'll almost always have a new fascination for the band you just watched. Motherfolk is no different, and that is why I love indie rock artists like them who are not afraid to test the limits of what sounds are supposed to go together and how songs are supposed to flow. In this case, you think you know the direction that the song is supposed to go, but songs that you know to be slower and calmer are the ones that end up having the craziest pickups and bring the crowd rushing forward. Something about a decent-sized crowd on a cold Chicago night is something magical. There's nothing more warm and joyful than seeing unfamiliar faces come together to sing their hearts out.

Big shoutout to the Motherfolk team for letting join them and cover the show - and for seriously putting on a kick-ass performance! Also, I wanted to give a special little shoutout to Andrea - who is the first photographer I have naturally ran into that already knew who I was.
