Chicago Fire Make St. Louis know who's King Of the Midwest.

On August 16th, Chicago Fire welcomed St.Louis SC to Seatgeek Stadium, Where Chicago fire was looking to keep their hot streak going after a tough match vs LAFC last weekend. St Louis on the other hand wanted to keep the momentum going with a season with ups and down.

Match time was due to begin at 7:30pm, But due to severe weather the game was delayed for about an 2 hours to a 9pm kickoff.

Chicago Fire came out swinging and scoring first with Hugo Cuypers opening up the score assisted by A.Gutman. St.Louis was caught off guard but did not let off the pressure either. You can sense the energy not just from the players but crowd. Both Fire fans and St.louis fans made themselves heard.

Chicago Fire was able to hold back St.louis going into the Half. With STL having a faster counter attacks, Carlos Teran and Jack Elliot's back line held with very convincing defending.

At half Time, We were urged to head to the tunnel following the team to get a first look at Chicago Fire's Latest signing, Andre Franco. The 27 year old officially joined the club on loan from FC Porto the Portuguese side. This was a well needed reinforcement in the midfield that expands Chicago's offense with his technical ball control and experience will help Chicago push into the Play-off spot they eagerly seek.

Chicago Fire hit the field ready to hold off STL for 45 more minutes. St.Louis on the other hand caught Chicago on a quick counter and was able to level things just after 2 minutes into the half.

Chicago managed keep their composure and hold St.Louis back for the moment. What makes Chicago a different team from previous years is the hunger for greatness. Whatever Greg Behalter brought to Chicago is working wonders.

Nearing half way through the second half, St.Louis took advantage of a Chicago Fire mistake and took the lead with a Marcel Hartel goal. The STL away fans made themselves heard and celebrated the late goal.


10 Minutes later, Chicago's Star Philip Zinckernagel scored the equalizer breaking the STL defenders ankles and slotting it away at the far post. Chicago was back into the game in no time at all and easily looks like the better team. Chicago was definitely the more hungry of the two. STL still battled nevertheless and upped the aggression and intensity.

Chris Brady was an absolute wall this game holding back the fierce STL front line. Stop after stop it looked like a tie game was near and was well earned.

Nearing the end Chicago got an unexpected counter, Zinckernagal dribbled past a few defenders, STL's Defense broke down and gave Chicago's Gold boy Brian "Guti" Gutierrez a perfectly placed shot that sneaked in the bottom left corner of Roman Burki's goal. The crowd errupted into cheers as this guaranteed Chicago's victory so late into the game.

With Added time now passing,this was the Fire's chance to make the Playoff dreams be more into reach than ever before. STL had just enough in the tank to keep the pressure in the Fire's half for the remaining added time. Nearing the end STL's Simon Betcher had the closest chance for STL with hitting the Brady's Goal post with a near post chance. This was the closest Chicago was to losing the lead.

Chicago was able to absorb the final push STL had and it was well paid off. After a long 10 additional minutes, The final Whistle rang out and Chicago came out victorious and took the 3 points at home. Heart breaking defeat for STL but it showed true improvements as Chicago is in top form and they battled well to the very End.

With 7 Games remaining Chicago's mission is not done yet. Playoffs are still the end goal of a successful first season for the head coach Berhalter. Every game is a must win and dropping points is not an option. This is the most promising the Fire has been for years and the fans are excited for whats to come. From new signings to Homegrown talents exploding into the team with statements. Chicago Fire's Win Vs St.Louis was a good stepping stone to see the direction the team is headed.
